The Demolition Of Google Friend Connect Newsletter

Google Friend Connect is being removed from Demon Vampire.

The notice was already sent to all Google Friend Connect members of the Newsletter that it will be removed from the site this morning. It is due in part to the divergence of words I have to dedicate to each venue since writing the newsletter is separate from the main blog.

I have given them all the chance to still be a part of the blog giveaway of course.

By cutting this portion of the site, I will be able to bring the mystery prizes that I have been keeping close to me into the site. There will be at least two other author books given away on the site and even a gothic CD in late March to early April.

For now, just sign up to follow the blog.

More information will be on the way.

More September Mourning

It became clearingly aware to me after the fact, I had forgotten to post any videos or links to the band September Mourning. For that I am sorry and am posting an additional to cover the missing content not included in the previous interview. Below my personal favorite of the group. I will admit the quality of the youtube audio is lacking, but the sound and lyrics more than make up for the upload issues.

You can find September Mourning on myspace.com, Facebook, and youtube by clicking on their respective links.

You can also find Emily Lazar's FB page by clicking here.

September Mourning Interview

A few weeks ago I mentioned the band September Mourning. A melodic sound that invoked soothing dreams in a way that I had not known in a while. Now, finally, I have that interview. Ten questions that have not been asked of the band to this day. Enjoy
1. What was the inspiration for your band?
September Mourning is not a band.... it's a story with a musical component... an art project if you will. :)

2. There's been a surge of gothic bands lately, all with their own styles. How does September Mourning differ?
As i said, since it's an art project built around a storyline it doesnt fall into the same category as a regular band. We are building our own world for you wrapped around the story of a girl named September who is a reaper... she lives in both the world of the living and the world of the dead. Her purpose is to act as the hand of fate and take your soul when your time is up... but she can also replace souls of the dead into souls of the living... so basically she starts trying to "correct" fate... which is a lot harder than it seems.

3. What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done to get close to the band?
Our fans are pretty amazing and we are very accessible to them after shows... but some of our fans are younger and can't go to a show if we play at a venue that is 21 and up... I once had a fan, a girl named Stephanie who was 18 wait outside a venue for an hour after we finished to meet me. I thought that was pretty amazing. We appreciate all of our fans so much. They are the only reason we can continue to make this project happen and we love them all.

4. If there were an Apocalypse tour show at the end of 2012, and you were invited to sing two songs, what would they be?
hmm of our songs.... i'd have to say "Children of Fate" and a new song that we are tracking right now for the new album which i can't disclose but it's pretty epic.

5. After a long day of recording, what do you listen to at night to unwind?
It really varies with the mood i'm in ... recently i've been listening to The Guild of Funeral Violinists at night. It's all violin. Like the strings are just weeping. It's kind of morbid but it's what i've been craving as of late.

6. A lot of musicians are co-oping songs recently. If you were able to do a collaboration with any other band, who would it be?
I would love to work with Skrillex on something, Corey Taylor from Slipknot....

7. What is the story behind your lyrics? What is the mythology of "Children Of Fate" in your song?
All of our songs tie into the storyline of September Mourning which i explained a bit about before. "children of fate" are the reapers... the ones that carry out the orders of fate.

 8. How did your band form? Who came up with the band name?
I first conceptualized this project 4 or so years ago. I named it September Mourning shortly after. My partner in the project is Marc Silvestri, the famous comic book artist who has helped me mold the idea and the story and bring all the elements to life.

9. What was is like the first time you ever went on stage? How did it feel?
Ever since I stepped on a stage at age 4, the Stage has always felt like home to me. It is the place that I feel most comfortable. Reality has never given me a sense of comfort... but on stage.... I truly am alive.

10. Finally, Emily, what was the inspiration for your distinctive makeup? Why the black tear?
Each reaper is branded by a marking... their own scar of sorts. That is mine.

Momentary Subjugation Of Prior Expectations

Yesterday, on December 10th, The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar was kind enough to host my book signing. For that I thank them. The ramifications of which are still working their way into my subconscious. Let's label it a learning experience and move forward.

The city of Federicksburg, with all it's history seemed to be against my car that chilly afternoon. The traffic to the downtown location was increased at best, and congested the closer I arrived to my destination.
Upon entering the scene, I was met by a large group of people on the side of a cross-walk. I thought to myself "That's odd. What are all these people gathered for?" Those words would not be my last revelation that day.
As I turned onto Caroline Street, I was met with an image that only dead sailors have been gifted with. Except in my case, the over toppling waves were made out of people. In addition, each person seemed to have in tow their brother, sister, mother, cousin, aunt, uncle, and extended in-laws with them. They of course all brought separate cars. I spent fifteen minutes searching for a parking spot before pilfering one that I shouldn't have. I rushed to the bookshop to find it packed. My initial hopes that they were possible buyers seeking out paranormal fiction would later be shed.
I explained my parking situation to the owner and found I could use their back parking lot. Ten minutes later, I found it, and finally parked in the correct location. I hauled the five foot, thirty pound folding table I had brought for the signing into the store. Seconds later, the owner showed me to a two and a half foot wide table with a solid metal chair instead. The store was packed and this would be my only chance for a table. I agreed and set up half my things with the limited space.
One item after the other fell off the small, minuet furnishing. I appeared a clumsy child in a top hat sitting at a kiddy table in the back room. It was not a welcome sight in my own mind. Despite the growing internal irritations in my head, I remembered that I was there to impress my words upon those who had never read them. I trudged on.
I had amassed a list of things to aide my signing. The most helpful of all, a simple crystal bowl of chocolates. That candy dish attracted more attention than my top hat and book combined. It was a clean investment.
As I sat next to a woman with a similar set up, I discovered I was not the exclusive author to grace The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar as I had imagined. Besides me, I learned that two other authors were set up with book signings that day. To my disheartened reaction, I also found the reason for traffic was a civil war reenactment, hence the explanation of the troves of people wandering the streets.
     I ate a chocolate.
There are few things in this world that I cannot calm myself from the thought of. I sat, took a moment, and accepted that because of the opportunistic people undulating through the store, I would have a chance to talk about the book with a new crowd.
A brief lamentation: There are hurdles in every medium of marketing. A lesson I had assumed I had learned in detail during the year my site, DemonVampire.com had been up. I had assumed that my work on the internet would translate into numerous persons perusing through the bookstore to find me and my book, Demon Vampire. Thankfully, we both know how much of an ass I have made out of you and me for doing so.
Internet marketing in a completely different skill-set and planning base than in-person book events. Of all my fans online that are reading this, many simply do not live in the United States. Others don't live near enough to Virginia to even make the trip viable. This was the downside of my flawed logic.
Onto the obvious crowds currently perusing the bookshop. It had appeared they were there for the authors. Little did I know how true that statement was. They were the families of the respected writers. Yes, they brought all the siblings and extended in-laws I had mentioned earlier that were roaming the streets, with an added issue of friends and associates that were there for their support. My support was on the internet, or working during the time of the signing.
     I was the cheese.
Regardless, it was not a letdown. I learned a vast amount more than I had expected. I even had a few conversations about the book that were meaningful and engaging. I hope to contact all five of them soon via facebook, email, or on the phone for those who are accustomed to speaking to a live person.
It was an experience that has taught me far more than I had wished. Learning is a reward for the pain of the distance you travel to get there.

I am sad to say there were no pictures taken of the event. At 4:30pm, I promptly exited and gathered my pride from the floor where I had dropped it under that diminutive table. I know that I was to show off my new cane to a few people, but that moment will have to come in a photo shoot later.

For now, I will be planning my next book signing at least six weeks in advance. I will be contacting the local newspaper, The Front Porch, as well as a few local radio stations about the upcoming event. Beyond that, I have an open invitation to come back to The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar in the future for another signing.

In the meantime, You can find Demon Vampire the book in print at The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar at 723 Caroline St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The retail of the book is $18.97 for the massive 500 page novel that weighs 1.6 lbs.

A New Level Of Pride

I recently was reviewed by the esteemed author Michelle Hughes.

All I need say, besides asking you to read her review, is that there are words you wish to hear spoken of your literature - These are some.

Click here to read the actual review of Demon Vampire on Amazon.com.

This review is from: Demon Vampire (Perfect Paperback)
Demon Vampire by Author Virgil Allen Moore left me completely mesmerized. His attention to detail was remarkable, almost poetic at times. The plot of the story draws you in deeply and uncovers the darkest side of the vampire with almost a perverse beauty of surrendering to the blood lust. The characters are well defined and draws the reader in making them ache to connect with the emotions behind the words. Demon Vampire has risen to the top of my favorite stories of 2011 and I look forward to walking in Mr. Moore's world again soon.

Buy Demon Vampire tonight on kindle for only $2.99, and share it with your friends. If you enjoy vampires, you will be enthralled by mine.

Book Review of Juice: Revolution by Michael Clutton

Michael Clutton is an adept writer that has a thoroughly witty narration. His script is decisive and telling. Honestly, it reminds me of Michael Crichton.

Juice: Revolution is a vivid, nerve-tingling tale that has wonderful moments of highs and lows. The horror is striking, the humor is memorable. Clutton's main character is smart and blunt in a way that is refreshing to the dire situations he is placed in.

Juice: Revolution is a solid read. Buy it today on Amazon by clicking here.

Book Review of Yesterday's Daughter by Sallie Lundy-Frommer

Recently, I was able to take the time to review a fellow vampire author, Sallie Lundy-Frommer and her book Yesterday's Daughter. Here is the review of that book.

Sallie Lundy-Frommer builds mystery from page one. She paints a realistic portrait of a less ordinary life. Yesterday's Daughter uses well placed inner voice to convey a heart felt story. This love story wrapped in a romance for romance lovers. It is well written for it's audience and has a particular allure in that genre. It is truly well suited for anyone that has a longing in their hearts for something a little different.

You can find Yesterday's Daughter on amazon by clicking here.

December Rebound Winner, Being Responsive Pays

There has been silence from our winner. This can only mean one thing... A new winner must be chosen.

I had taken some thought on the matter. Realizing that what I am directly asking for is a mere attendance of sorts. To show up at the right time and place to get a free book. It's under this concept that I realized simply picking another person at random until some one responds, would be perpetual madness wrapped in a can of irritation. What did all those who actually read the winning post do? Did they waist their time? I say, no. It is my goal to reward those who "attended" the winning post on the 1st of the month. So it is with great pleasure that I announce an addendum to the rules of the giveaway.

If the monthly follower giveaway winner does not comment on the winning post, or respond by email before midnight that night, the first person to actually comment on the winning post, will win. So it is in your best interest, even if you aren't the monthly winner intially, to comment on the monthly winning post. If the selected winner doesn't respond, you will win instead. It's that simple.

This month, the winner did not respond in time. Only silence was heard the night of the 1st, and she will miss the chance to read the sweet pages of a free 500 page book. However sad this may be, another winner has emerged from this silence,

 December Rebound Winner

All she needs to do is claim her prize. (Check her email on this one.) And she will get a signed copy of Demon Vampire.

Even if you didn't win this month, remember that Demon Vampire is on amazon.com in print for $18.97

Either comment on this post, or send me an email to confirm you want Demon Vampire, the 500 page novel, mailed to you just for following the DemonVampire.com

As with each winner, the response must be made before the end of the day at midnight. If there is no confirmation from the winner, a new follower will be selected as this month's winner. Make sure to respond ASAP when you receive this announcement. Everyone is eagerly awaiting the news.
