I know that the re-edit was supposed to be out by now, but there were a few set backs.
I won't go into the finer details, but to put it bluntly, there has been a bit of a falling out between me and Erudite Small Press as I knew it. Well, the person at least.
When I met Alan Taylor, he promised me riches and thought the book would sell millions. That as i found out is only possible through lots and lots of advertising, which Erudite doesn't have a budget for at all. The little advertising that has been put into the book and has resulted in a decent amount of sales, has been done out of my pocket directly. That is the main reason for what has taken place.
There has been a private settlement made after I brought legal charges against Erudite Small Press. Things such as miss handling of books during the shipping process that resulted in scratches. Several books that have not been accounted for and therefor never paid for, have come up. And lastly, the editing. Now I know that I am not the best at self editing, I will honestly admit that. However, you would think an English major would be. Yes, it was a big book, but there were still hundreds of typos missed. It has been a failing point of some of the lesser reviews.
I am happy to say that all these problems have been taken care of, in a way. I now own Erudite Small Press. Yes, that's right, after the settlement, I came away with the keys to the small kingdom as it will. This means that I own all my rights again, and am no longer under contract. This also means that I can hire any editor I want. And Jimmy Blake is the one that has already edited the re-edit at this point and done a wonderful job.
The down side of this is that my knowledge of the publishing world is limited. In a normal scenario, this would mean another delay in the next few books coming out while I catch up. However I have found a way to make things a bit easier. Since the book, Demon Vampire has been split into three volumes, Demon Vampire, Bloodlines, and Ascension; and the book has already been published under Erudite, I will be using the same Amazon services they used to release the book, except with one addition, Print On Demand. It was discussed a while ago when I wan signing the first contract, but it was dismissed because it didn't make them enough money. Now that I own Erudite, I'm willing to make the sacrifice. The books will be available as follows:
Demon Vampire Vol.1: $6.99 Kindle/ $8.99 Print
Bloodlines Vol.2: $7.99 Kindle/ $9.99 Print
Ascension Vol.3: $8.99 Kindle/ $10.99 Print
SSR 1192 Vol.4: $4.99 Kindle/ $6.99 Print
Yes, that's right, the book will only be $2.00 more than the ebook, making it very affordable to buy in print now. Especially versus the old price of $18.97. This way, you can enjoy the book at your pace and buy as you finish them.
As far as Redgold Vol.5 of The Redgold Series, the one that everyone has been waiting for, I will still be entertaining the idea of an outside publisher. Mainly, I want my book in Barnes & Noble and Walmart, something that is difficult right now through Erudite.
As all this goes forward, you can rest assured that the books will only get better. I will be using several professional editors from now on and the difference will be felt with the release of the first re-edit.
Thank you for your time in reading this and supporting my writing career. Don't forget to sign up for the newsletter, join the blog, add me on good reads, and like me on facebook.
