The Winner Of The Open Artist Contest

The open artist contest began a little while ago and had a limited amount of entrants. However, one is all that I needed in the end. The winner, Heather Joy has the great raw talent I have searched for.

Heather will be crafting the three scene comic based on the book Demon Vampire. There is no current publication date except for the concept of it's delivery later this year. What is for certain is that the comic will be free to read and download. You will be able to spread it as you all wish and enjoy the visual world of Demon Vampire with your eyes instead of only my vivid use of words.

The rough sketch defined here is the winning entry that sealed the contest. From here there is a long road ahead. Line art correction, final story boarding, color approval and corrections, and finally tones and shading. Then everything gets to be done two more times to make the three total scenes. This is why the project is set for far later in the year. The time involved is vast and there are many concerns that need to be addressed. For now, the acceptance of staff artist is enough to celebrate in it's own right. It means one step closer to Demon Vampire sweeping the world.

What Is Your Blood Flavor?

In Demon Vampire, those who drink blood taste it differently than humans. Instead of the varying spread of sweets, bitters, and other realms of what actual blood tastes like, vampeals, vampires, and demon vampires all come to understand a different flavor when consuming that precious life giving liquid.

Zack Giver tastes rich, vitamin D thick milk.

Kyli Waterfield tastes cranberry juice.

If you were a vampeal or vampire, what would be your flavor of blood? Would it be coffee, ginger, ...egg nog? Comment below to tell me what flavor of blood you would taste.

Up And Coming About Demon Vampire

There has been a few things in development lately. Four more video book reviews, a possible interview with a known vampire, and a little secret I am keeping quiet about until it's actually completed.

By now, you all have seen the first video book review of Demon Vampire.

Soon, there will be a video book review of Demon Vampire: Special Science Report 1192 (SSR 1192). As well as three additional video book reviews of Demon Vampire by three other youtube reviewers.

I am in talks with several public vampires to conduct an interview of what they think about the current mediocrity of the social trend of non-goth readers into the softer vampire slush that has been released in the last decade. Depending on who takes accepts the interview, the results should be entertaining.

I am in the beginning stages of appearing on an internet show. Yes, this means you will be able to finally hear my voice and see the mannerisms to which I am sure you have all thought about in reading my verbose blogging. As well as another book giveaway to be done on that show. As to which show and what time, everything is working itself out quite well for now and I will keep you all posted.

Momentary Subjugation Of Prior Expectations

Yesterday, on December 10th, The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar was kind enough to host my book signing. For that I thank them. The ramifications of which are still working their way into my subconscious. Let's label it a learning experience and move forward.

The city of Federicksburg, with all it's history seemed to be against my car that chilly afternoon. The traffic to the downtown location was increased at best, and congested the closer I arrived to my destination.
Upon entering the scene, I was met by a large group of people on the side of a cross-walk. I thought to myself "That's odd. What are all these people gathered for?" Those words would not be my last revelation that day.
As I turned onto Caroline Street, I was met with an image that only dead sailors have been gifted with. Except in my case, the over toppling waves were made out of people. In addition, each person seemed to have in tow their brother, sister, mother, cousin, aunt, uncle, and extended in-laws with them. They of course all brought separate cars. I spent fifteen minutes searching for a parking spot before pilfering one that I shouldn't have. I rushed to the bookshop to find it packed. My initial hopes that they were possible buyers seeking out paranormal fiction would later be shed.
I explained my parking situation to the owner and found I could use their back parking lot. Ten minutes later, I found it, and finally parked in the correct location. I hauled the five foot, thirty pound folding table I had brought for the signing into the store. Seconds later, the owner showed me to a two and a half foot wide table with a solid metal chair instead. The store was packed and this would be my only chance for a table. I agreed and set up half my things with the limited space.
One item after the other fell off the small, minuet furnishing. I appeared a clumsy child in a top hat sitting at a kiddy table in the back room. It was not a welcome sight in my own mind. Despite the growing internal irritations in my head, I remembered that I was there to impress my words upon those who had never read them. I trudged on.
I had amassed a list of things to aide my signing. The most helpful of all, a simple crystal bowl of chocolates. That candy dish attracted more attention than my top hat and book combined. It was a clean investment.
As I sat next to a woman with a similar set up, I discovered I was not the exclusive author to grace The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar as I had imagined. Besides me, I learned that two other authors were set up with book signings that day. To my disheartened reaction, I also found the reason for traffic was a civil war reenactment, hence the explanation of the troves of people wandering the streets.
     I ate a chocolate.
There are few things in this world that I cannot calm myself from the thought of. I sat, took a moment, and accepted that because of the opportunistic people undulating through the store, I would have a chance to talk about the book with a new crowd.
A brief lamentation: There are hurdles in every medium of marketing. A lesson I had assumed I had learned in detail during the year my site, DemonVampire.com had been up. I had assumed that my work on the internet would translate into numerous persons perusing through the bookstore to find me and my book, Demon Vampire. Thankfully, we both know how much of an ass I have made out of you and me for doing so.
Internet marketing in a completely different skill-set and planning base than in-person book events. Of all my fans online that are reading this, many simply do not live in the United States. Others don't live near enough to Virginia to even make the trip viable. This was the downside of my flawed logic.
Onto the obvious crowds currently perusing the bookshop. It had appeared they were there for the authors. Little did I know how true that statement was. They were the families of the respected writers. Yes, they brought all the siblings and extended in-laws I had mentioned earlier that were roaming the streets, with an added issue of friends and associates that were there for their support. My support was on the internet, or working during the time of the signing.
     I was the cheese.
Regardless, it was not a letdown. I learned a vast amount more than I had expected. I even had a few conversations about the book that were meaningful and engaging. I hope to contact all five of them soon via facebook, email, or on the phone for those who are accustomed to speaking to a live person.
It was an experience that has taught me far more than I had wished. Learning is a reward for the pain of the distance you travel to get there.

I am sad to say there were no pictures taken of the event. At 4:30pm, I promptly exited and gathered my pride from the floor where I had dropped it under that diminutive table. I know that I was to show off my new cane to a few people, but that moment will have to come in a photo shoot later.

For now, I will be planning my next book signing at least six weeks in advance. I will be contacting the local newspaper, The Front Porch, as well as a few local radio stations about the upcoming event. Beyond that, I have an open invitation to come back to The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar in the future for another signing.

In the meantime, You can find Demon Vampire the book in print at The Griffin Bookshop & Coffee Bar at 723 Caroline St, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The retail of the book is $18.97 for the massive 500 page novel that weighs 1.6 lbs.

A New Level Of Pride

I recently was reviewed by the esteemed author Michelle Hughes.

All I need say, besides asking you to read her review, is that there are words you wish to hear spoken of your literature - These are some.

Click here to read the actual review of Demon Vampire on Amazon.com.

This review is from: Demon Vampire (Perfect Paperback)
Demon Vampire by Author Virgil Allen Moore left me completely mesmerized. His attention to detail was remarkable, almost poetic at times. The plot of the story draws you in deeply and uncovers the darkest side of the vampire with almost a perverse beauty of surrendering to the blood lust. The characters are well defined and draws the reader in making them ache to connect with the emotions behind the words. Demon Vampire has risen to the top of my favorite stories of 2011 and I look forward to walking in Mr. Moore's world again soon.

Buy Demon Vampire tonight on kindle for only $2.99, and share it with your friends. If you enjoy vampires, you will be enthralled by mine.

A Face That Launched A Million Words. Michelle Trachtenberg

There are times when inspiration strikes and there are times when one needs a moment of revitalization. This face brings with it thoughts of eternity in a mental realm unrivaled. There are few images that are able to call inspiration in me. Music normally holds that power well - This carries value as no other.
Although Michelle Trachtenberg resembles none of my current characters, it would be a delight to have her appear in Demon Vampire The Movie when casting begins. I am sure that eventually there will be a character in the series that has long red hair and blue/green eyes.

Eva Coppersmith Interviews Virgil Allen Moore

Interview with Virgil Allen Moore

BIO:
I am Virgil Allen Moore. I write the book Demon Vampire. I have been writing for over seventeen years. I began as a poet. Later, I turned to fiction. My voice carries presence in my pen as I write. It is a talent that I have used well in constructing my novel. My platform is visual aesthetics mixed with powerful character driven writing. My myths teach visceral morality in a palette that is captivating and fulfilling to readers. My type of vampire is above the fold as related to today's popular image. It is my vision that those who remember the era of Anne Rice will see my epic as the answer to the mundane vampire that has propagated in the ebb of recent social tide. There have never been vampires like mine. I have created a powerful, elegant, sophisticated type of vampires that have seeded desires and emotional ties to the world around them.

1- What was your inspiration for Demon Vampires?
Several years ago I noticed a decline in the way vampire novels were written. I grew up in the Anne Rice era and still had a fine view of vampires as elegant and powerful. The idea that a human could attack a vampire, or even take blood from them, appalled me. I set out wanting to write a novel that solved that problem. I desired an epic story about vampires that were troubled by larger ideals, not the petty teen angst that most paranormal novels pour out these days.

2- Please tell the readers a little bit about your book.
Demon Vampire is a morality tale that questions the choices of the reader. It asks if you would sell your soul for power. While this choice seems clear cut initially, you find there are complications. The demon inside Zack wants to eat his soul, part by part until he is the “abomination among monsters” as referred to in the book. Zack, and the reader are faced with the same issues, heavy morality in a dire circumstance. It presses the conventional ideals of all vampires books in existence.
Demon Vampire as a whole is set up with multiple characters painted over an expanse of 6,000+ years of history. It is a poetic ride that melds artistry with a full cast of dynamic characters. It is nothing like the force-fed vampire many have come to see in popular writing today.

3- I hope I am correct on this. Demon Vampire is part of a trilogy. If so, can you give us a little insight as to what will come and when we can expect them?
Actually, it's much bigger than that. When I originally wrote the book, it was just a stand alone. Then more ideas came up, and more, and so on. So far I have a full outline for book two, as well as concept outlines for books three through seven. And that's just the main series. The book actually has several spin offs that are full length novels. Since Demon Vampire is 242,000+ words and can literally stand on end at 500 pages, the side novels are modest by comparison. They will be your average 250 page novels. As of this interview, there is:
Demon Vampire (the main novel being released 10/30/2011),
Demon Vampire: Special Science Report 1192 (The free ebook that comes as a download companion to the main novel),
Demon Vampire: The Elder Ritual (A book about the demon vampire Salas, reflecting all of his incarnations before the main novel). It is set to be released in late 2012,
and Demon Vampire: Redgold (the direct continuation of the main storyline). It is currently being written and is suspected to come out in October of 2013 at near the length of the first novel (About 210,000+ words).
Unlike other vampire novels that have all one view point or direction. Demon Vampire novels show the histories of all the characters and how they interact with each other. The true joy comes when the reader understands how and why one character might act differently in front of others apart from the main story. That is the main reason behind the side novels.

4- The main character in your book, Zack Giver, seems like such an unlikely person for the part. What brought his character to life?
Life experiences. I wanted to show what a person with real personal issues could bring to the table. He's not the whiny or snarky teen that always has a fresh comment about every thing that comes up. When he's scared, you know it. When he's uncomfortable, you feel it. Zack Giver is the new archetype for a truly dynamic protagonist. He grows as the novel progresses. In the beginning, he's perfectly human. By the end of the novel, the reader questions if Zack is turning into a monster he fears.

5- Who has had the most influence on your writing and why?
I didn't begin as a fiction writer, I was first a poet. William Blake and Dante influenced me a great deal. When I got into fiction, Anne Rice helped to get me into vampires. I read her vision and was hooked in the elegance and demeanor of her characters.

6- Who provided the cover art for your book and did you have any input on the finished product?

Leos Ng Okita. An amazing artist that I was able to find on DeviantArt.com. Thankfully, I was published through a small press that didn't have a full art department. I told them that I already had someone in mind for the cover and that I had the concept written out. They gave me the go, and I let Okita-Chan, as she likes to be called, do her best. A few weeks later, she wowed me and Erudite Small Press with a wrap around cover that was built to impress. A week after that, The cover was finalized and ready for distribution. It's been a wonderful process. I'm very happy that I was able to choose my artist. As long as she is available for Demon Vampire: Redgold, I will be contacting her for another cover.

7- I have to ask you. The pics on your blog are really classy. They remind me of Gary Oldman in the Dracula movie. Did that have any influence on the way your pics were done?

Yes and no. I've always loved top hats and full three piece suits. Apart from the fact that I have long black hair, I did mimic some of Oldman's essence when posing for the author photos on the site.
Although it hasn't been posted yet, I have a cane now to complete the picture. It has a black rose handle with a diamond shaped crystal on the far tip.
The ironic part is that Gary Oldman is what one of my characters, Salas, looks like. There is a painting of “The Lich King” that another potential cover artist did a while back that highly resembling him.

8- I know you have been writing for about seventeen years and started with poetry, what can we expect from Virgil Moore in the future?
Apart from the fourteen books that I have planned for this series alone. I do have a few contemporary pieces without any paranormal elements at all. They are nothing like the other writing I do. However, there will always be one thing that ties all of my novels together, morality. I believe that morality can be a career defining tool as a writer. The concept of reading a book knowing the end is one thing, but having to ask yourself who had it the best or worst by the end, makes you think. I've always loved the way the movie “Requiem for a Dream” did it. You see four characters and all of the hell they go through in life. All of my novels tie everyone into everything in a way that is entertaining and thought-provoking. The lowest lows are not felt unless the reader has a sense of depth. Dante said it best when he wrote, “The greatest woe is happiness recalled in misery.” I will always desire to have my readers feel the story I write, if they don't, it's lost. I want my novel to be remembered for how it made them feel the day they finished it, no matter which genre I write in. If I can give a moral that forces you to question who you are by page 500, then I have done my job.

Once the copies are gone, you will have to wait for another print run by the publisher, which may take two-three weeks. To avoid this, buy early. You will be rewarded by a signed copy with an added gift enclosed in your order. Something that you will not be able to buy or obtain otherwise. As to what that special gift is, you will need to order to find out.

Also, subscribe to the newsletter to read up to chapter three of Demon Vampire for free.
