Consistent Work

It's been a few years since I've written. I've had a few things happen, but mostly I've realized that I'll never be a full time writer. I have too many hobbies and too many other obligations to make it a career. On top of this, I am not good at editing my own work.
I of course blame myself, but if I had to explain why I murder grammar the way I do, I'd have talk about R.L. Stein's The New Girl. I loved that book growing up. I've read it about four times now and each time I realized more and more how bad his grammar is as an example to young readers. I took a lot from his cadence, patterns, and delivery. Although I added bad spelling to the mix, it still ends up the largest influence to how I write.
I started writing about Zack and Kyli in mid 2005. I envisioned them as the tragic couple at odds with their world. I formed them above all else and soon I had a very clear visage to work from when writing their story. I could hear them. See them. Talk to them. I knew how they felt and how they would react. As I got to know them, my writing continued. Unfortunately my editing skills did not. I am quite proud of my creative ability, but I am equally ashamed of my technical failures in literature.
With each new chapter and incarnation of the story, I got better and better at defining my style and inventive quarks. But I did nothing to improve myself as a writer that can actually write well. I liken it to a painter that can see exactly the vision of what they want to paint, but lacks the skill to show others how it appears to them.
I know now what I need to do to proceed if I intend to. I have got to take a college course on writing. I need to put in the time. Otherwise, my writing will always be considered amateur and be dismissed.
I also know that taking that class for a semester would be nearly impossible in the foreseeable future. There are too many current obstacles. I know in time they will be gone, but for now, I know the truth. They are not going to disappear. I'll have to remove them. And that I know will take time in itself.
So in the meantime, I've taken to writing new short stories on inkitt and blogger using my phone for convenience. Because it does come down to that final fact. The easier it is to do, the more consistent I can be in my writing. And that's ultimately what it comes down to.
So for now, enjoy the writing when it comes maybe once a year. Outside of that we'll both have to wait until I'm able to devote enough time to become a better writer.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

Demon Vampire Is Being Revised

Demon Vampire is currently being reworked.

In the past several reviewers have noted the weak and whiny nature of Zack Giver as the main character. Even in the more negative reviews of the book, the character Marin has been praised. I searched for why and found that indeed he is a bad ass stoic vampire. So I thought about it. A lot of people thought about Zack and Marin as parallel characters in different places in their lives. So I took that to heart.

I went back through the whole book and changed Zack Giver. I took out his entire weak and clueless nature. I replaced it with a modern version of how Marin was when he was younger. The stoic sense of self. The passive intensity that everyone loved about Marin is now also in Zack.

The revised edition will be done at the end of August and will be available at that time for review. To those that have already received an advanced review copy, that would be the time to request the new version.

I am also making the book a little less violent. The whole Orhn scene didn't really make sense after the initial cut of the new edition. So I decided to work it into a later book instead. This should fix the disjointed issue that most reviewers have noted.

I believe these changes should benefit the book as a whole and make it the amazing series that so many of you were hoping to read. Thank you all for sticking with me as I evolve into the writer you have always wanted.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

Good News

I found a way to give you all my book, for free

And to make it #1 on Amazon.com

Recently, one of my Uber-Fans, Kathy, told me about the site: ILoveVampireNovels.com
It's a site that gives it's members a free book everyday just for signing up.

Obviously, this is a wonderful thing and I think that this will be the avenue that launches Demon Vampire to the #1 Bestseller's Lists across the nation. The best part is that this site is growing fast by word of mouth. I know that it will be a little while before I am able to add my book to their lists, but in the meantime, I'd like to share this treasure with you all as it was shared with me. So sign up and get reading. Tell all you can and in time, my book will be available on their site as well.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

Loading, Loading, Too Much Damn Loading

The New Computer Is Up And Running

Now just 70 programs to install...

The last computer had 98GB of programs files. Thankfully I am not installing all of them again. I'm just focusing on the ones I need to write and edit the new photos.

For now, it's a slow crawl to get all the simple installs I need to keep it safe and prep for the coming books.

Don't forget to email me at virgilallenmoore@live.com for a free advance copy of Demon Vampire.

Check Lists Are A Pain

And Twenty Trips To The Car Sucks.

All of you that are Photography Majors, I laud you.

For those of you that aren't, like myself, let me explain.

Five lights that could nearly blind someone just by themselves, stands-a-plenty, and more little things that I can easily count. All of these things are what I am having to haul to the photo shoot tomorrow.

The time has come for the photo shoot that will replace the current cover of the book if all goes well. I am setting everything up for the last push in the next 24 hours. Every detail has to be taken into account. Every color of nail polish for each outfit, everything from shoe polish to added flashlights for shadow effects - each thing has to be remembered and packed. It's both overwhelming and exciting.

The event I have been planning for the last two months has finally come. Tomorrow, I will shoot over 2000 pictures and in the end, I should have somewhere near a hundred usable photos to show for it. These images will be in the book, used in ads, on the site, and even in promotional items.

Wish me luck.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

It's Not That Bad, Really;)

My Main Computer Is Fried

That's right, I had a hard drive failure.

But as I said, it's not that bad, really.

A few weeks ago it started having a few boot issues. At the time, I thought it was a hiccup, damn hiccups. Therefore I kept at it and thought I had fixed the problem through nothing else but professional neglect.

Then the issue became a problem. I wasn't able to start my computer about 85% of the time. At this point, somewhere in the back of my head, I heard those awful, all too well known words, "I told you so."

More money that I am willing to admit later... I have another desktop coming in the mail. I built the last one five years ago. With all I put into it, it's sad that I had to move on, but I must admit, it is a welcome change in the end. I am building this one as well, and at least the upgrade is a plus.

For those of you that are worried about my writing, it hasn't derailed anything. I have my work backed up in more than four other locations at any one time.

On other news, it's less than two weeks until the photo shoot. I'm anxious, and I'm sure all of you are as well. In the end, I added a lot to the shoot, a lot more than what was originally set up. There will be pictures that I will be adding to the site, advertising, and throughout the book that will be more than enticing to most.

Be sure to look forward to the up and coming photos and all the work I'm putting into the book. Subscribe and be sure to post this on your wall through facebook. Every voice counts in getting the word out.

Sincerely,

The Meeting Went Well

My model now has clothes!

...To wear for the cover shoot.

I met with the model for the shoot today. Although I am not willing to show you a picture of her as of yet, believe me, you will all enjoy the look-a-like I have found for the role of Kyli.

Today, she saved me the cost of a dress and even turned me onto going to a different store for the shirt and skirt I was looking into.
These are the two styles of outfits that the shoot will focus on. They may seem simple in the drawing, but the reality of it will be very pleasing.

These are a few cover ideas. A few of them are possible cover shots, but in the end, time will tell what gets used and what only gets put on the site.

These are a few more cover ideas. The arm and knife will be the cover for Bloodlines.

The hand writing will be the cover for SSR 1192.

The open hand is just an idea that I've been playing around with.

This is a possible cover shot for the re-release of Demon Vampire.

All and all, I was able to go over the set up of the shoot. The order of make up, the shots, and the changing of clothing. We made a lot of headway and worked out a few needed things. I can't wait to do the shoot on April 19h.

Meeting With My Model Today

Today is the day I do the one thing that even I dread doing as an author... buying new clothes.

And they aren't even for me:(

I will be meeting the model for the cover shoot today and searching out the articles of clothing that will fit into the realm of Kyli Waterfield's style. This should be a relatively easy task, but at the same time, neither of us will have had much sleep. I know that I got around four and a half hours and I don't think that she will be getting much more than five.

The good news: we can both operate on will power and coffee.

I'll let you all know how it goes with an additional post later tonight. As well as some character sketches of the covers that I personally drew. It won't be anything too detailed. There is a reason why I am a writer and not a dedicated artist;)

The Shoot Is On

The Photo Shoot Has Been Confirmed!

In the last post, I was setting things up with a few choice models for the cover photos. As of this week, things have begun for real.

The model has been chosen, the location, most of the individual shots, and even the props are on their way from all over the world. (I love eBay and Amazon;)

At this point, the wardrobe and make up are being all gathered to be ready for the day of shooting. It should be early to mid April at this point. Of course that is tentative to everyone's schedule. But the main thing to take from this is that it is happening.

The last time I paid for a cover, I got everything I asked for. It was beautiful, exactly as I had asked, and it was even done in the time frame I had asked. The price was even very reasonable. However, there was one problem, I didn't ask for more. The last cover was meant as a wrap around for that one book only. This time, I will be taking enough photos to use for up to seven different book covers. That's right, this shoot will get me through the next seven books.

Now I know what you may be thinking - "You don't have seven books!"

"Actually, yes, I do."

Demon Vampire is being cut into three volumes by itself. SSR 1192 has already been out for over a year, which makes it book four. The next book to be released will be entitled Redgold, which will be book five. The side novella after that will be called Five Years, making it book six. Finally, the seventh novel is what I'm currently working on right now. It doesn't have a title yet, but it will soon.

After those seven photos have been used for the covers, I will be doing another shoot. I will be using a different model for that one though. She will be made up to look like Sophialla. The short, petite, long blonde haired vixen that was only mentioned in the later part of Demon Vampire. She will be the next character immortalized on the covers.

As for the current character, it will be Kyli Waterfield envisioned by a live model.

To those that think seven photos of Kyli will be a bit monotonous, it won't all be her exactly. I have come up with an array of images to photograph that will all have an equally diverse impact on the eye and mind.

For now, know that I am hard at work with the series. Everything is coming together for the re-release. Imagine, within the year, over a hundred thousand people all reading and talking about The Redgold Series. Please, tell everyone you know about this site and have them follow through feedburner at the top right of the site. Because if you do, it will help everyone to read this fantastic story. You have the power to spread the word, now go, and talk about Demon Vampire to the next person you see.

Virgil Allen Moore

Great News, One Is Done!!

Book One Is Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have sent off book one of The Redgold Series back to the editor for final proofing. (Jimmy, you are awesome.) Everyone, Thank Jimmy Blake, please. He has turned the novel around from being dismissed for the spelling and punctuation errors that caused it those few low reviews.

In a while, hopefully about a month, the book will be ready for re-release.

It will also have a new cover.... If things go well. The current artist did wonderful in creating the likeness of Kyli, but there was still something missing from the image - A pulse. That's right, the new cover for the book will be a live model. The model hasn't been confirmed yet, but I will ultimately be shooting the cover in about a month's time. Meaning that right now, the logistics matter more than anything. As long as I find the right subject by the last minute, everything will go well and you all will be able to see the new look of Kyli Waterfield.

As for all the headache with Erudite Small Press, things have calmed down. I've found out that I wasn't just thinking I was in over my head, I found out that is how it was supposed to be with one person managing a whole publishing company that they won in a legal dispute over royalty payments. Yes, everything is just wonderful;) ...(There was expletives that I wish to omit right now for the sake of the younger readers of my work. Rest assured that I am getting everything done as quickly as I am able with all that I have to juggle on my plate.)

For now, simply subscribe to the blog, lend as much support as you can over the next month. The more hype the re-launch gets, the more the sales go up, and the more work I will be able to put into the rest of the series as a whole.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

And Now Onto Massive Editing

This week I will do that which is feared by all authors... Editing.

I will be tackling Bloodlines and I hope to have most of it done this week. Remember that even the professional editor I paid for this book took 3 months to edit it. That means I have my work cut out for me in the re-write.

The good news is that once the new version of the book comes out, it will mean that the old version, the one that most people got signed personally by me, will be more valuable in the end. Mainly, because they will be completely out of print as soon as the new version is released.

I will be offering an anthology version of the book, which will be books 1-3 on Kindle and in print. All those wanting a 680+ page book, you're welcome. It will also be at a discount when buying it on Kindle as well.

In the mean time, I am prepping the first chapter of the re-write to be released on the blog, so be sure to follow the feed, hit like, and join the follower list to stay in touch for it.

Until Then, Enjoy The Night.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

You Are All Going To Love This

In the past year, there have been a few comments about the editing of Demon Vampire.

"Don't complain, just throw someone under the bus and make sure no one sees you driving it."

My editor, Alan Taylor, at Erudite Small Press is a good man. He started Erudite with a goal of getting into the Publishing Industry. He saw the potential in my story and did the best he could in editing it's 242,000+ words over the course of four months. He did a pretty good job. Better than I did. I unfortunately have never been know for being perfect in the world of grammar. I learned poetry and old English, and read Gothic works before any real modern writing. It skewed my take on everything to come. That said, Alan did what he could.

On October 30th, 2012, the publishing rights contract for Demon Vampire was lifted. Meaning that they no longer own the print rights to the book. With this in mind, I offered Alan a deal. I bring in a new editor for book two and he lets me publish it under his label. He enjoyed the idea and added a bonus. Demon Vampire will be sent back to editing.

That's right, Demon Vampire will be rewritten.

There will also be a few more additions to the already long book. A few plot holes will be discussed. Or at least explained. (I rarely leave anything out due to error. It's more part of a much larger picture.) Also, the book will be split into three. Making each book about 83,000+ words after the rewrite. Around 350 pages or so. Much more manageable than before. No more chapters that leave you looking for a life preserver in the sea of pages. All these issues of this will be addressed.

This means that the current "Book Two" that I just finished, will actually be book four. Don't worry, this one won't be a back breaking edition. It will be about 290 pages in total.

There is also a surprise that I will be announcing at the book signing. Granted, there hasn't been a date set for it yet, but I will be timing it around that event. Trust me, you will all enjoy it. I will be talking about a few things that will happen in Demon Vampire: Redgold as well. And as I mentioned earlier, I will be taking email addresses at the book signing to send out the first chapter of Demon Vampire: Redgold.

For now, know that I have a lot in store for the series. And to be sure to tell your friends about the book. If this is going to be made into a movie, I'll need all the support I can get.

I Have An Announcement, Another Book Signing!!!

I will be at Acron Books in Dover, Delaware for their Grand Opening Event.

I will be there in person to Autograph and talk about vampires in general.

There will also be perks to those who buy Demon Vampire that night. You will get 10% off to the Italian Restaurant Vincenzo's, that is located in the same strip mall within walking distance. All you have to do is show them the book and you will get the discount for that night. Also, while supplies last, I'll be giving away FREE chocolate and hot chocolate to all those that come in and drop by to see the signing.

The address of Acorn Books is 1030 Forrest Ave., Suite 114, Dover, DE 19904.

The time of the Signing hasn't been put down, but then again the date of it hasn't either. I will let you all know the day and time ASAP of course. It should be at least two weeks from now to let you know if anyone is planning on making a trip out of it.

I will also be taking down email addresses of all those who purchase the book there. The people on that list will be sent the first chapter of the next book in The Redgold Series for FREE. All you have to do is buy the book and write down your email on my ledger.

Unlike the last book signing in downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia, There will be no... Civil War Reenactments to deal with. No hordes of people combing the streets to find parking (myself included). And thankfully there will be no small two foot by two foot table for me to cram all of my books onto. No, thankfully this book store is planning ahead. I will have my full six foot table with banner and all the trimmings. There will be ample parking, no city events to compete with, and even someone to chronicle the night with a good camera. Yes, that's right, new pictures will be posted! Also the sheer size of this store is great. They have over 3600 sqft of floor room, filled with plenty of books, some of which are soon to include mine.

I will keep all of you posted on the changes to come these following weeks.

And yes, I haven't forgotten. Today starts another Demon Vampire GoodReads book giveaway!!! Enter on the top right hand side of the main page to win.

Enjoy the Giveaway and I will talk to you all soon.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

Dental Work To A Writer Is Deadly

There are few things that can stop me from writing like Novocaine.

Today is one of those days.

It's a hard reality to face when getting a filling. Not being able to eat for a few hours, not being able to chew on my left side for a few days, and also feeling cold sensitivity for two weeks.

It sucks.

There is a constant irritation with knowing you can't feel one side of your face. Beyond that, eventually, when the numbness wares off, the pain is a welcome reminder to the fact that too much candy makes for a bad dental experience twice a year. Not that I'm complaining. I'm the one that ate the candy in the first place. Regardless, I'm not in a mood to make way on the book as of this hour.

I am able to give a few points of good news however.

I will be posting a new giveaway in a few days for Demon Vampire. Also, Book Two is currently at 52,000+ words. I'm well into chapter nineteen and the book will be finishing up very soon. Granted, it will still need to go to edit, but that is a small detail this time around. Last time, with the size of the book, it took three months just to edit. This time it should be very quick. About two to three weeks or so.

In the meantime, watch for the giveaway coming up.

The Download Was A Success

On Saturday, there was a surprise free download of the sample chapters, SSR 1192, and then on Monday, Demon Vampire became free as well.

In the course of 24 hours, 474 people downloaded the ebook. Congrats to those near five hundred souls!

As usual, the freebie days that any of my books are set up on are a close guard secret and are very far between. Also, for the small price of $2.99, you don't have to wait.

On a side note, Book Two is going well. I have a hidden announcement that will be made in October as well. All I can say is that it involves more words;)

Another Goodreads Success

I have been amazed over the last few months. Goodreads has continued to provide over 800 entries each time it has been placed.

At one time, I thought that it was because of the length of time I put the giveaway up. It used to be six weeks. That brought about a thousand people. The next two were about a month each, they brought around eight hundred. This last drawing was only a week. It totalled over 800.

It is because of this success, that I will be giving away a few more books each month. I will start by holding two giveaways next month. Each will be for a week only. We will see how it goes. Since I plan on finishing Book Two soon, I might be generous in giving away signed copies of book one. Either way, the closer I get to completion, the edgier I get, and I will be rewarding my followers handsomely.

50K!!! Things Are Going Well

I have reached 50,000+ words!!!

I was able to write a decent amount since last post. I don't have too much time this week, so I'll have to make this short. Thank you all for subscribing and keeping up with the book. I should be releasing the first chapter to those that pre-ordered book one in about a couple of weeks. I'll let you all know when it's ready.

The Progress Of Words

I have been diligent at finding the time to write. I have taken so many moments to write this week, I think I have reached a new personal record for writing.

However, during each session, I have been plagued with actual urgent matters. Everything from family concerns, to home repair problems. In short, these things, although needed the priority, have a constant and steady unintended delay to my progress.

Regardless, I have now reached a word count of 45,000+ words.

As I have stated before, this book will be a welcome relief to those that were at terms by the slow and sometimes to detailed world pace that I set in book one. As an answer to this, I have agreed to a word count limit on this book. The pacing will also be quicker and more action oriented. Instead of the massive tome that book one was, book two will be a fast satisfying read that will leave everyone, (trust me on this,) clamouring for the next instalment.

I will be doing in my series what no other author is willing to do. As to what that is, you will have to read for yourself when book two comes out. So far that projected date is going to be the end of this year. If I am able to burn the midnight oil more often, that date even advance closer towards a November Release.

As always, the more support there is for the book, the quicker I write. So go out there, to your book groups, to your blogs, to your community forums - and tell everyone that Demon Vampire: Redgold (Book Two of the Redgold Series), is coming!

The Cost Of Words

The writing weekend was helpful. I learned a great deal from it in that I now understand there are limitations to my flesh. Mainly, my ass.

Sitting in a single chair for 18 hours in not an easy thing. Needless to say, I had to take many breaks during my writing stint. The good news is that it did pay off. I was able to write around 8,000+ words. Yes, far less than I had planned for. I would blame life, but I enjoy it too much to nag.

I was able to finish a chapter and write a whole new one with the time I put into the story. At this pace, I should be done a lot sooner than projected. In hopes I will be able to do just that, I will be taking another long writing block this week. Either Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm not sure which will be best, I might do both.

So far I've added several new characters to the story and I have plotted out the twelve vampire elders and their respective roles throughout history. That part was very rewarding;) I can't say why right now, but trust me, you are in for some well earned surprises later in the series.

As exciting as the development is going, I've found little time for sleep.

I'll let everyone know what happened on Thursday and the current word count at that time. Until them, at least for today, I'll be preparing and resting. After that, I'll be writing.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore

Re-Cutting Teeth

Lately I've been spending too much time marketing and playing the good writer to actually lay down a solid stream of thought on my book.

That changes tonight.

I have set other activities above my writing in the past few weeks. Things needed of me that have taken a great deal of time away from my writing, but necessary things none the less.

Over the course of the next evening I will be dashing all the small items on my daily list of dutiful chores and errands to instead simply write. In a usual session, which lasts 2-3 hours, I am able to writer around two to three thousand words. I hope that given a full day of around 16 hours and a bit more caffeinated tea than I am willing to admit, I will be able to clear 15-20,000 words.

As for the full time frame of my maddened rush to jump start the verbose monster that slumbers inside.... That is to be determined. I can say that I won't be answering any emails, or generally be online until after or around Monday at least.

So for now, have a great weekend, be sure to rate the book on goodreads below, and I will let you all know how much fruit I will have picked.

Sincerely,

Virgil Allen Moore
